Gaming terminals deployment

Luna is a market leader in specialist logistics and is a privately owned company founded in 2010 by Briege Leahy and Melvyn D’Cruz.  With 40 years’ experience in the industry we pride ourselves on maintaining a personal approach for our customers balanced with innovation and technology.  Based from our central Essex headquarters we offer full UK and European coverage through our eight hi-tech strategically located warehouses.  All our teams are highly trained and CRB vetted ensuring a quality service from collection through to delivery and final positioning.

The brief

Luna was chosen by a global gaming corporation to partner on a nationwide replacement of 16000 terminals for a major licensed betting office chain. Luna were appointed to project manage the entire installation programme from start to finish. This high profile project required experienced international management and precise planning throughout to ensure a successful completion.

The project presented the following key challenges:

  • the creation of a secure web-based ‘live’ data tracking system across multiple locations
  • timely communication with Chinese manufacturers to position stock in UK warehouses
  • delivery of a cost effective end-to-end logistics solution operating mainly out of hours
  • to achieve the entire project within budget over a tight four month timescale

The Project

Our dedicated project team partnered with the client and the international manufacturers during every aspect of this high profile project. The gaming terminals were manufactured in China and transported to the UK via sea freight. Containers were received at various intervals throughout the implementation requiring precision communication channels whilst safeguarding the client schedule.  Luna provided meticulous logistical scheduling including the terminal final positioning from the outset. This proved to be the foundation to the success of the project.

The installation required 2 man crews with full PES screening who shadowed the client engineers to upgrade the gaming terminals. High spec air-ride specialist vehicles carried upwards of thirty terminals per day delivering and installing to three high street locations. Often thirty plus vehicles were in active deployment across the UK in any one day.

In addition to the nationwide logistics management the client required live tracking and POD provision. We designed a web-based live ‘traffic light’ spreadsheet system showing when ETA’s were scheduled, imminent and active. This visual system provided a user friendly tracking system. Removal and installation serial numbers were tracked by post code location and importantly by footprint destination within the betting office. A secure web-based data base system was created allowing a live refresh to post updates throughout the day. This innovative system was a huge success with the client who promoted a large monitor display within their headquarters.

The Conclusion

This was a significant project for Luna Logistics to undertake as it required strategic project management across all of our service offerings.  Accurate and precise planning before and throughout the major deployment was highly commended by the client. Through collaborative communications and a developing partnership we successfully completed the project on time and within budget.  Following on from the success of this programme Luna have been awarded further projects from the client.
