Major Digital Imaging Company awards specialist logistics project to Luna

Luna is a market leader in specialist logistics and is a privately owned company founded in 2010 by Briege Leahy and Melvyn D’Cruz. With 40 years’ experience in the industry we pride ourselves on maintaining a personal approach for our customers balanced with innovation and technology. Based from our central Essex headquarters we offer full UK and European coverage through our eight Hi-Tec strategically located warehouses. All our teams are highly trained and CRB vetted ensuring a quality service from collection through to delivery and final positioning.

The brief

Luna was chosen as logistics partner by Canon UK for the configuration and deployment of 400 printers for their high profile customer, the Ministry of Defense.

The project presented the following key challenges:

  • 100% accuracy in scheduling of all pre-staging and delivery in tandem with Canon UK engineers
  • Implementation of a robust inventory management system for accurate recordings of the return flow of legacy equipment
  • Ensuring ‘business as usual’ for end customer as project executed during normal working hours

The Project

Expert project management of an end to end specialist logistics service bespoke for Canon UK. This large scale project utilised many of Luna’s services including secure warehousing, pre-staging and configuration, specialist transport to final location, reverse logistics, decommissioning and asset management.

The initial stage of the project involved the delivery and storage of 400 printers in to our secure warehouse in Harlow. The units were captured by serial number, unboxed and pre-staged in our own technical centre by Luna’s highly trained staff. Each printer was configured and PDI completed before being re-boxed and labelled with site address and final location.

Luna’s experienced scheduler worked closely with Canon UK engineers to coordinate delivery times on site by final location enabling a seamless transportation and ensuring a green button test could be achieved. The coordination was expertly managed resulting in limited disruption to business, a critical factor for the end customer.

All the air-ride vehicles used were fitted with load locks securing safe transit of the high value printers and delivered by a team of drivers who were both CRB vetted and in possession of a CSCS card. Once on site each printer was carefully unpacked and placed in to final position before full networking or green button test completion.

The return flow of printers included decommissioning and asset recording on site before returning to Harlow. Each legacy printer was processed through our technical centre and either recycled or disposed of following WEEE legislation with full audit trail and certification.

The Conclusion

A successful deployment of 400 printers expertly scheduled and project managed from start to finish. Full inventory and security of both the new and legacy equipment was captured accurately throughout without disruption to the end customer’s work flow. Each phase of the project was successfully inspected and signed off in full by Canon UK.

Briege Leahy Luna Director added:

‘We have completed many large deployments of printers and other IT equipment over the years; it is a testament to all the Luna team involved that resulted in such a very successful project’

Client Chief Technical Officer commented:

‘Another successful deployment completed by Luna with professionalism and outstanding attention to detail. Please thank all involved’
