The brief

Luna Logistics partnered a leading financial services company with a nationwide replacement of 800 self-service cash dispenser ATM’s. The client, a major bank required a rebranding and retrofit program across all its high street locations to abate growing security threats.

The project presented 4 key challenges:

  • Delivering a cost effective end-to-end logistics solution including out of hours
  • Working to a tight fixed timeframe
  • Meeting the end client’s high level security pre-requisites
  • Achieving the construction industry’s highest level of health & safety policies throughout

The Project

Following a series of client workshops the project was specified to meet the end client’s security pre-requisites.

The initial phase of the project involved the deployment of highly trained surveyors to visit 400+ banking locations within the nationwide programme. The surveys ensured all aspects of safety, access, parking constraints, resourcing and risk and method statements were covered.

The second project phase involved the scheduling and positioning of experienced installation crews with high spec air-ride vehicles. Adhering to all health and safety policies our specialist crews worked onsite with building services contractors to complete the bank upgrade.

The installation work required the unbolting of the decommissioned ATM’s from security plinths, security seals emplaced and the ATM’s then removed from the branch. Each replacement ATM was then carefully installed on to a new security plinth.

Across the entire replacement programme a variety of specialist strategies were used including:

  • Ramp construction
  • Stress–tested platforms
  • A-Frame pulleys
  • HIAB and fork lifts
  • Live out of hours reporting

Luna’s provision of a single point of contact via an out of hours duty manager was highly credited by the client. The management of the live reporting of onsite progress was a critical requirement for them.

As part of our pre-staging and configuration service we decommissioned all returned ATM’s and cleared the data using Blancco Certification.

Project progress was measured throughout with Luna achieving all qualitative and quantative KPI’s.

The Conclusion

The replacement project concluded on time and on budget following a successful client-supplier partnership.  The success of the project ensured all installed cash dispenser ATM’s were functional prior to the bank opening the next working day, a critical milestone for the end client and end user.

Briege Leahy Luna Logistics Director added:
"It was a pleasure to partner on such a successful and rewarding project."

Financial Services Project Manager commented that:
"The project success was attributed to the professionalism of the Luna Management and the crews who demonstrated throughout that no request however challenging was not achievable."
